Patient at AktivOrtho

´At AktivOrtho, they helped me avoid surgery and accelerated my recovery. I have experienced a phenomenal change in my condition and now I am on the path to wellness. The treatment approach followed at AktivOrtho has no comparison; it is service-oriented and highly professional.´

“My friends told me about AktivOrtho. In May 2014, I visited the centre for the treatment of my lower back problem. I was suffering from a condition known as Scoliosis (when the spinal axis has three-dimensional deviations). Before AktivOrtho, I went to a leading hospital where they examined my spine X-Ray,and then I was referred to AIIMS for surgery. My family and I were very distressed.

At AktivOrtho, they helped me avoid surgery and accelerated my recovery. The quality and care at AktivOrtho are par excellence. I have experienced a phenomenal change in my condition. Now I am on the path to recovery, thanks to Dr. Gerd Mueller (MD)and my physiotherapist, Ms. Pooja Majumdar.

The treatment approach followed at AktivOrtho has no comparison; it is service-oriented and highly professional. They identified my real problem.”

Comments by Physiotherapist Ms. Pooja Majumdar

“Ms. Pooja Sharma initially presented with coccyx pain, investigations for which led to a discovery of her scoliotic spine. Her Cobb’s angle (which measures the extent of scoliosis in the spine) as measured initially was 42º.

I started by treating her coccyx (tail bone) pain which included assessing her posture, manually releasing tight soft tissue and exercises to correct movement patterns and improve flexibility. After 6-7 sessions, once her coccyx pain subsided I started addressing her spinal scoliosis.

Treatment for this included manual therapy to correct rotation of spine and myofascial release of overloaded structures. Her spine curvature was assessed and accordingly an exercise plan was prepared which was individualised and was asymmetrical i.e. different exercises for the right and left side of her body. I also advised her to continue her regular home exercises. Her condition was constantly re-evaluated every 3-4 sessions by Dr. Mueller and me, based on these assessments her exercises were gradually progressed. She started holding herself straighter and now feels stronger than before her treatment started.

A repeat X-Ray, done after 6 months of starting the therapy, revealed a decrease in her Cobb’s angle from 42º to 30º. This was a very happy moment and a huge relief for the patient and her family. She is continuing with a regular maintenance program at AktivOrtho and works hard with us towards getting a heal thier body”.
