Patient at AktivOrtho

´AktivOrtho offers very high quality levels of care. Now my gait has improved and my energy levels are higher. My shoulder, which had undergone a reverse shoulder replacement, is now fully functional. AktivOrtho has given me a new lease of life.´

Stroke & Post-Surgery Shoulder Rehab

“I learned about AktivOrtho through an article in the Hindustan Times. We (my wife and I) came to the centre in October 2013 as my neurologist advised me to go for physiotherapy. I had a minor stroke in 2008 and also had a frozen shoulder.

Before coming to AktivOrtho, I went to another hospital for physiotherapy but did not continue as there were too many patients being attended by too few physiotherapists. At AktivOrtho, I have a dedicated physiotherapist for 1 hour who only attends to me. It offers very high quality levels of care.

Now my gait has improved and my energy levels are higher. My shoulder, which had undergone a reverse shoulder replacement, is now fully functional. At AktivOrtho, the treatment approach is very different.

AktivOrtho has given me a new lease of life”.

“Mr. Surinder Singh Kalra has had multiple areas of concern (common amongst stroke patients) for quite some time and he did try various treatment options. The treatments worked but the results could not meet his or his family’s expectations, until they came to AktivOrtho in October 2013. He suffered a stroke in 2008, which restricted his daily life.  He also had pain in his left shoulder which required surgery but his condition didn’t permit it.

An integrated neurological assessment followed by pain management and neurological rehabilitation enabled him to resume his activities of daily living (ADLs) in just a few months. By this time, he could also have surgery for his shoulder. After the operation in March 2014, he came back to AktivOrtho for his post-surgical shoulder rehabilitation.

By 4-6 weeks, he was able to move his shoulder and resume his daily chores without much pain. He was continuously evaluated and his treatment was regularly updated varying from manual therapy to improve his shoulder range, to pain reduction, strengthening of shoulder, balance and gait training for better mobility and the ability to perform activities of daily living (ADLs). After this, his prime concern was to achieve better balance to reduce the risk of falling. An exclusive, continuously monitored and customized proprioceptive and balance training program helped him achieve excellent results. Initially, he was very apprehensive but the consistent motivation and multidisciplinary approach worked well and gave him confidence.

Today, Mr. Kalra is highly active and confident. He can perform his daily tasks without any difficulty. He has regained the full range for his shoulder, with no pain at all and built on his strength as well. His balance and gait are near normal. He is an inspiration to many patients, especially the older people who usually have multiple areas of concern. Mr Kalra’s wife, Dolly Kalra, who joined AktivOrtho with pain in her shoulders, knees and ankles, is now 90% better. She is still visiting our centre to ensure the residual 10% is taken care of and her progress is excellent.”
